She was so warm, so constricted. She took inventory of her body as the fogginess of sleep receded. Her muscles ached and stretched in many places but she didn’t bother to open her eyes, knowing it was still dark, that she hadn’t been asleep for long. The fire had died down to a single flame.

But it was still bright enough to flicker behind her eyelids at random intervals.

She knew where she was and who was wrapped around her, his breathing even and predictable. His hard chest pushed into her back with each breath and his breath was whispering over her ear, the warm air tingling her skin.

His arm was around her in a vice-like hold and it was the only thing that was covering her naked form. His body was hot like an overheated machine and it was better than any blanket she had ever had. Their position was comfortable.

Allie was tired and still half asleep as she counted his breaths, listening to every slight rustle of their bodies– aware of his semi-hard erection between her buttocks. She wanted him again even though she was still sore, the salve still working between her legs, the cooling sensation a relief.

She was wicked– the pain they had shared together had driven her beyond any normal reason. Drawing his blood, attacking his skin with her nails, a canvas for her pent up emotions spoke to something she kept hidden deep inside.

Just as she began to drift back into a dreamy state of being, the light flickered as if it was hit by an invisible breeze, catching her attention. She peeked her eyes open to focus on it, tuning out her previous thoughts, her awareness of the dim glow and Jack’s breathing fell away.

The silence became hollow around her as if there was no place for the rest of the world. The absence pushed it away.

She couldn’t comprehend the sudden change that fell over the camp. As if the gloom perforated the space naturally. She could feel a tension build around her, sucking the air out and making it hard to breath.

Her stomach dropped and Jack’s arm around her no longer felt safe but began to feel like a restraint. Her heart beat elevated, feeling fast and erratic. Not being able to move, she watched as the flame flickered and faded before her eyes. It pitched the cave in an unnatural darkness.

She was no longer warm and comfortable but terrified and faint.

The sound of quiet breathing morphed into long, unnatural scratching. The direction of the scratching was out of her vision, the grotesque, sharp noise came from the unguarded entrance at her head.

Allie shut her eyes.

She didn’t want to see it, hearing the long, perverted creek move closer. If she saw it, she knew her mind would snap. That her life would be altered forever and in a terrible way. She wouldn’t come back from this.

The scratching moved closer, bringing the weight of darkness with it, drowning out everything else.

A gurgling, pitched hum was right before her now, the grinding claws came to a halt.
